A historical enclave that overlooks the Vía de la Plata
Parador de Benavente

Halfway between León and Zamora, dominating a a crossroads of ancient pathways, stands the Parador de Benavente on the remains of the castle of Los Pimentel. The Parador includes the Renaissance Torre del Caracol, which is home to a magnificent Mudejar coffered ceiling and a period bar.

The décor, with tapestries, cast iron lamps and handmade materials will transport you to another age. The Gardens of La Mota that surround it, and the spectacular views over the valleys of El Tera and El Órbigo, make it the ideal place to relax, with spots such as the swimming pool and terraces where guests can take it easy and enjoy a well-deserved rest.

Entrada principal del Parador de Benavente

Benavente was one of the most important stopping points on the Vía de la Plata, and as such its castle was an important political centre; a place where the union of the kingdoms of Castile and Leon was celebrated, and where Carlos V held his first council after being declared emperor.

The castle-palace was commissioned by the Counts of Benavente as an extension of the already 12th c. existing castle. The Renaissance style Torre del Caracol, completed in 1504, was one of the most important additions, and is now the architectural emblem of the Parador.

    Explore the surroundings in Benavente

Benavente has always been a key crossroads in Spain, especially on the Jacobean routes. From the Parador you will be able to see some, such as the Camino de Oriente, the Camino de Valladolid, the Camino de Asturias, the Valle del Tera Route or the Vía de la Plata, converted into a Vía Verde and one of the best walks in the region. But Benavente is much more than a crossroads. Lose yourself in its historic center and be amazed by its Plaza Mayor and stately homes, or the churches of Santa María del Azogue and San Juan del Mercado.

Benavente offers you richness and variety. Are you interested in culture? Take the Zamora Archeology Route and learn about its Celtic origins, or take advantage of its strategic location to visit León and Zamora, both less than an hour away. Do you prefer nature tourism? In the Arribes del Duero Natural Park you will find a deep canyon opened by the river, with walls up to more than 200 meters high. Explore it on foot or on an idyllic river cruise. Looking for a more active experience? The province offers spectacular hiking routes, such as the Senda de los Monjes or the Route to the Tejedelo Forest.
