Limpias is on the right bank of the eponymous estuary, next to the waters of the river Asón. And King Alfonso XIII made this peaceful setting his summer residence, in the Eguilior Palace, which is now the Parador de Limpias.
The building invites you to rest and stroll through its well-maintained and extensive gardens. It offers warm, comfortable rooms, the excellent cuisine of the Parador Network, lawn tennis and paddle tennis courts, a seasonal swimming pool and bright, spacious rooms, which are ideal for family and business events.
Limpias town centre, with its stately houses and houses Spanish people who’d made their fortune in Latin America, is a beautiful area that you’ll love to walk around. The most notable places are the San Vicente de Paúl school, the hermitage of Santa Isabel and the church of San Pedro, where the Christ of the Agony, to which the town of Limpias owes its fame, is kept. Limpias is an ideal starting point for visiting towns such as Laredo, which contains La Salvé , one of the longest and most beautiful beaches in the region with its immense five-kilometre sandy beach; or Santoña, which holds the title of the birthplace of anchovies in olive oil and also has the nearby Berria beach, which enjoys easy access.

Limpias has a long seafaring tradition. Today you can still visit the Puerto del Rivero on the bank of the Limpias estuary, and there discover the open-air Naval Museum. If you walk through the old town, you’ll be amazed by the manor houses and the houses of those who made their fortune in Latin America, which abound in the streets; the old college of San Vicente de Paul and the wonderful chapel of Santa Isabel. In the church of San Pedro, you’ll find the famous image of the Cristo de la Agonía (Christ of the Agony), to which this town owes its fame.
In summer, one of the main recommendations is to visit a beach in the east of Cantabria; most of them are blue flag beaches and all of them have a special charm.
From the busy beaches of Castro Urdiales to the more secluded and quieter beaches of Isla or Noja, to the extensive La Salvé beach at Laredo or the charming Berria beach in Santoña.
They’re all within no more than 15 minutes of Limpias.
For lovers of nature tourism, the area offers incomparable landscapes in the Los Collados del Asón Natural Park and in the Santoña, Victoria and Joyel Marshes Natural Park.
