Parador de Cardona
The Montserrat mount is considered the most important mountain in Catalonia. The meaning of its name is associated to its geologic morphology: monte (mount) serrat (sawed), as if it had been cut with a saw. In the year 1987, the whole region was declared the Natural Park of the Montserrat Mountain. The highest peak is the Sant Jeroni peak and it reaches 1236 metres.
Some regions are covered with holm oaks, oaks and different sturdy bushes, combining rocky landscapes with green ones. Eagles, wild boars and mountain goats are some of the examples of animal species that live in here.
You cannot miss the Santa María de Montserrat Monastery. It is located right in the mountain and it is still active nowadays. This monastery is the reason why Montserrat mountain is considered a pilgrimage meeting point. The whole complex includes little churches that surround the monastery, a library and the oldest children's conservatory in Europe. There is also an art museum with works from Dalí, Picasso and El Greco. Doesn't it sound interesting?

Parador de Cardona
If you don't want to go up the mountain on foot, you can go on the funicular. It was opened in the year 1930 and it is fast and comfortable You have to take it at the Estación Aéreo de Montserrat and it will take you directly to the monastery. It is a 5 minutes ride in which you will 1350 metres. Going on the funicular will allow you to admire the landscape as well but this way you will do it from the air. The prices are: 7 one-way ticket, 10 return ticket (*)
To get to Montserrat from the Parador de Cardona, you have to take road C-55 for around 50 kilometres. In less than an hour you will have made it! It is a nice trip to discover this impressive mountain while staying at the medieval castle from the XI century now known as the Parador de Cardona.
