Chase the Winter Sun in Spain
18 de December 2014

Winter winds need not lead to a dreary holiday in Spain: by selecting the most sun-kissed locations, you're assured the perfect, sunny escape, with coastal breezes included.

Paradores' luxury and historic hotels invites you to cheat the chilly temperatures and flee to its wide array of spectacular, seaside locales, where the weather is warm, the views unrivalled and the food absolutely delicious.

Mediterranean marvels

Just because it's winter doesn't mean that you can't enjoy all the pleasures of the summer months! With a visit to Paradores' locations on the Mediterranean coast you can practically pretend that summer never ended.

One great way to take it all in is from Parador Málaga Gibralfaro, a lovely stone manse next to the city's iconic Gibralfaro Castle which offers incredible views of the Mediterranean from its perch on the eponymous mount. Take a dip in the pool or enjoy a cool drink on the terrace before heading to the Parador's restaurant for classic ajoblanco (chilled almond and garlic soup) and freshly-caught fried fish.

Another option is to drop in on nearby Parador Nerja, set on a cliff above the area's famously blue waters, or nearby Parador Mojácar, which is located in the heart of an idyllic village full of whitewashed houses at the foothills of the Sierra de Cabrera Mountains. Both are blessed by the area's average temperature of 20ºC and 3,000 hours of sunlight per year.

Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport -Spain's third largest airport- is the quickest way to reach all three locations, with regularly scheduled flights to London, Manchester, Dublin, Liverpool, Paris and numerous other international locations.

Atlantic bliss

Paradores' Atlantic locations are no less welcoming to winter-weary guests. Chic Parador Cádiz is custom-suited to visitors seeking sun and style, with the stunning glass and steel building cutting a dramatic silhouette in the heart of Cádiz's Old Quarter. Nearby Jeréz Airport, with flights to Madrid that connect around the world, allows visitors to drop in at their leisure.

Parador La Palma, meanwhile, offers a complete disconnect at its sunny manse overlooking the ocean. Surrounded by a vast garden, this sunny spot is a great base from which to discover Caldera de Taburiente National Park, and can be easily accessed from La Palma Airport, which hosts regular flights to Madrid, London, Manchester, Brussels and locations throughout Germany.  Ferry connections, meanwhile, connect it with the rest of the Canary Islands.
