Parador de Casa da Ínsua

One village you cannot miss if you stay at the Parador de Casa da Ínsua is Viseu. This village is located 25 kilometres far from our hotel. It is the capital of its own district and is located the Beira Alta Region in the central part of Portugal.

Viseu was a crossing point for different Roman roads, that is why it became an important spot during the Roman invasion of the Iberian Peninsula. One of those Roman roads crossing through the village was the one coming from Mérida.

The village of Viseu was also known as a village of Counts. Visiting Viseu includes visiting its cathedral. The Cathedral of Viseu is a religious building that started to be built in the XII century but it was not finished until the XVI century. It has a representative Gothic style in all its three naves.

The Mercy Church, right in front of the cathedral, is a 1775 construction with a characteristic rococo style on the façade. The cathedral, the church and the Roman fortification of the doors and walls of the old part of the village are the most representative elements of the architectonic complex of Viseu.

Back to the area where the Parador de Casa da Ínsua is located, we have to talk about Penalva de Castelo, the concelho where our hotel is established. This village belongs to the district of Viseu. Penalva do Castelo is in a place where valleys, mountains and a wide variety of fauna meet to create a harmonic atmosphere in central Portugal.

The architectonic heritage of Penalva do Castelo mainly resides in two constructions: the Roman Bridge of Penala do Castelo and the Monastery of the Holy Sepulchre, which is considered the first monastery that was built under the Holy Sepulchre Order in Portugal.

You can walk from the hotel to the village which is just 1 kilometre apart. Our Parador de Casa da Ínsua is a baroque style building from the XVIII century surrounded by beautiful tropical landscapes and green areas that enhance the beauty of it. Walk around its colourful gardens, discover the legends of this historic building and enjoy a relaxing time inside its comfortable installations.

One thing you will enjoy so much is the gastronomic offer. It is a place for food lovers and wine lovers! It is the perfect place for you to explore, try and delight in the wines and traditional dishes of this Portuguese region.
