Hidden beaches in the North of Spain
06 de May 2016

For some people, the North of Spain means seafood, wine and cold weather, but actually it is way more than that. The northern coast of the country is full of nature, hiking spots, mountains and of course, beaches. For those who are not big fans of the regular crowded beaches, we will recommend some hidden beaches in the North Coast. Lucky for you, we have Paradores Luxury Hotels located nearby these beaches.

Gulpiyuri Beach

This small hidden inland beach is located in the coast of Asturias, between Ribadesella and Llanes. Gulpiyuri is a natural monument and part of Spain´s Regional Network of Protected Natural. This small creek is caved in the middle of the mountains, reason for which it is not affected by the wind and has small waves. The fact that is isolated from the most crowded beaches and not so easy to reach, allows this natural paradise to be perfectly preserved.

Our Parador de Cangas de Onís is located only 35km away from the Gulpiyuri beach and can be accessed by the N-363 road to the village of Naves. By staying in this Parador, placed in an old monastery, you can also visit other natural spots such as the lakes at Covadonga and the Picks of Europe.

If you prefer to stay directly in the coast, you can choose our Parador de Gijón, which is only a 50 minutes' drive away from the Gulpiyuri beach and only 15 minutes walking from the beach of San Lorenzo in Gijón.

Rodas beach and the Cíes Isles

The beach of Rodas, with more than 1km long and 60cm wide is the largest beach in the Cíes Islands. In front of this beach there is the Ría de Vigo and behind, the Lake of Cíes. This heavenly beach has the form of a shell and its open and windy, the water is clear, nice and chill and the sand is fine and white, which makes it the perfect option to go with the family. Other beaches located nearby in the Cíes Islands are the beach of Figueiras, the beach of San Martiño and the beach of Nosa Señora de Carracido.

Our Parador de Baiona, is the best choice to stay when you are planning to visit the Cíes Isles.  In a medieval fortress in the Monterreal Peninsula, stands our Parador, with its elegant and spacious guest rooms and its intimate and exquisite ambiance. From here you can enjoy the most stunning views of the sea and the Cíes Islands in the distance.

The easiest way to get to Rodas beach in summer is by taking a boat from the port of Baiona to the Port of Rodas. If it's not summer, you can also take the boat from the Port of Vigo which is located 35km away from our Parador. It´s important to take into account that the Cíes Isles only admit 2.200 visitors a day so we recommend that you book a place in the boat when you are planning your trip.

Beach of Virgen del Mar

As one of the most beautiful beaches in Santander, the beach of Virgen del Mar is located only a few kilometers away from the center of the city. The beach has a length of 400 meters of golden sand and moderate swell. The isolation of the beach from the city center is the reason why it´s not usually crowded.

Both our Parador de Santillana del Mar and the Parador de Santillana Gil Blas, are located only 28km away from the Beach of Virgen del Mar. Besides visiting the beach of Virgen del Mar, by staying in our Paradores you will be able to walk along the gorgeous city of Santillana del Mar, a pedestrian city.
