Imagine spending your vacations in a luxurious hotel in the middle of a green landscape with many hiking possibilities in the surroundings? Well this is possible in the Paradores at Cangas de Onís and Fuente Dé, two destinations in Spain to breath fresh air and get immersed in an ambiance of deep relaxation.
Parador de Cangas de Onís
The Parador de Cangas de Onís is located in the Picos de Europa National Park in Asturias. As is typical in this region, green landscapes, rock formations and water sources are the protagonists of the landscapes surrounding the hotel. There are many hiking routes available near this Parador but this time we will talk about two special hiking routes.
- Route of El Cares: this route around the National Park of Picos de Europa starts in the village of Caín in León and has a length of 12km (24km roundtrip) and can be done in about 3-4 hours one way or 8 hours’ roundtrip. The stunning landscapes, the river and the sights will make this effort worth it. The difficulty is low/medium and is mostly flat with little ups and downs. We recommend that you take sunscreen, enough water, comfortable shoes and lots of energy. If you prefer to go with an expert, there are some guided tours of this route.
- Route to Mirador de Ordiales: starting at the parking of Pandecarmen (located 27km away from the Parador de Cangas de Onís through the CO-4) and finishing at the Pradera de Ordiales, this route has a total length of 15km and takes approximately 6 hours (roundtrip). Also, it has a medium level of difficulty and is well signalized. The best time to do this route is on autumn or summer, when there is no snow and you will have the chance to admire green vegetation and the stunning views when you get to the Mirador.
Parador de Fuente Dé
The Parador de Fuente Dé, located in the village with this same name in Cantabria is the best place for nature lovers and hikers, and also for relaxing and escaping from the stress of everyday life. With a cableway right next to the Parador and many hiking routes around, you will not stop discovering beautiful landscapes.
- Route of Mirador del Cable - La Vueltona - Horcados Rojos: this route has 10km in total (5km each way) and can be done in about 3 our 4 hours. To get to the departure point you will have to take the cableway that´s near the Parador and start the route at the Mirador del Cable. Passing through La Vueltona and finishing at Horcados Rojos, this route with steeper sections every once in a while can be tiring but worth it thanks to the stunning views and landscapes.
- Route of the Mirador del Cable - Refugio de Áliva - Invernales de Igüedri – Espinama: this 10km route can be done in approximately 3-4 hours. It starts at the Mirador del Cable, same spot as the last one and goes all the way to the woods of Espinama, point from where you will start to come back to Fuente Dé.
