The old monastery of San Pablo, built in the beautiful location of La Hoz del Huécar, is home to the Parador de Cuenca, one of the most special place in the city, next to the Bridge of San Pablo and opposite the Casas Colgadas (Hanging Houses).
The interior will surprise you with its decorative fusion of tradition and modernity, and its unique spaces, such as the old glazed cloister, the cafeteria, located in what was the monastery chapel, and the beautiful outdoor swimming pool, with a spectacular view of the city.
The Parador de Cuenca stands in what was the monastery of San Pablo, which was built by the canon Juan del Pozo in 1523 in a Plateresque Late Gothic style and was closely related to the iconic Bridge of San Pablo, which is also named after the canon.
Today, the cloister houses a masterpiece by the artist Julián Casado, entitled “Malevich Series. Variations on the same structure”. The work, made up of 42 canvases painted between 1978 and 1982, is a meditation on the tenets of the Ukrainian artist Kazimir Malevich, the father of constructivism, creating variations of the impact of light on a geometrical body.

A little further away is the Serranía de Cuenca, which offers beautiful landscapes, such as the source of the river Cuervo and the el Ventano del Diablo. About 25 kilometres away is the Enchanted City: a natural landscape of rock formations dating back 90 million years where we can recognise the shapes of dog, a tortoise or the face of a man. The Enchanted City is in the heart of the Serranía de Cuenca, which also offers special spots such as the source of the river Cuervo or the so-called Ventana del Diablo or Devil's Window.
