Parador de Guadalupe

The Parador de Guadalupe stands next to the Royal Monastery and the Plaza de Santa María, in an impressive Mudejar complex of the 15th-16th c. There you’ll discover a comfortable, welcoming space where arched arcades and greenery offer a sensation of peace and quiet.

The Parador’s large white walled rooms and decoration that evokes its medieval past alternate with magnificent spaces such as the cloister, with arches and latticework inspired by ancient Moorish design, and a beautiful back garden where you can delight in the ponds and fountains. The swimming pool and many of the rooms also have terraces where you can enjoy exclusive views of the Royal Monastery.

Claustro del Parador

The complex occupies the old 14th c. Hospital of San Juan Bautista and the 15th c. Colegio de Infantes, both of which were converted into a Parador in 1965. Both institutions formed part of the monastery and symbolised the pillars of medieval knowledge: humanism and science.

The outcome of a rigorous restoration process , the legacy of the old Mudejar monastery can be seen in the use of green wall and roof tiles that reflect a strong Arab influence, and in the traditional latticework and flooring in the patio of the Parador, where ponds and fountains add to an exceptional setting inspired by the Moorish kingdoms of Andalusia.

    Explore the surroundings in Guadalupe

Guadalupe is a beautiful town that nestles in the heart of the Geopark of Villuercas-Ibores-Jara, in Extremadura, one of the most unique landscapes in the region. The best way to get to know it is by losing yourself in the cobbled streets and discovering the traditional buildings, such as the Royal Monastery of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, a monumental Gothic-Mudejar sanctuary declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. While you’re here, you shouldn’t miss the Plaza de Santa María and the old Jewish quarter, or the local museums, which contain works by Goya, El Greco, Pedro de Mena and Juan de Flandes. Everything forms part of a unique setting that will take you back to another age.

Guadalupe is surrounded by a unique landscape that brings together culture and nature. Nearby you’ll find beautiful routes such the Isabel la Católica Trail, which follows the footsteps of the famous queen, impressive buildings such as the Hermitage of El Humilladero and the Arca del Agua, and charming mountain villages such as Cañamero, Logrosán and Berzocana. And if you’re looking for a different kind of experience, the Parador offers exclusive Starlight activities for stargazing.

This architectural beauty has Mudejar, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque elements, and has witnessed great historical events such as Christopher Columbus’s audience with the Catholic Monarchs, in which they offered him the caravels for his voyage to the Americas.

Inside are the Church of Our Lady, the Camarín de la Virgen, the Mudejar Cloister, the Chapter House, the Sacristy and the Chapel of San Jerónimo with paintings by Zurbarán.

You can also visit its museums, where ’you'll find works by Goya, El Greco, Pedro de Mena and Juan de Flandes.

Near the Royal Monastery is the Plaza de Santa María de Guadalupe, in the town centre; leading off it are the cobbled streets of its historic quarter, which you should walk around until you find the most interesting places: the Old Jewish Quarter, the complex of hospitals, such as the Hospital de San Juan Bautista, which today forms part of the Parador complex, and its five Medieval arches.

In the surrounding valleys we invite you to visit the Granja de Mirabel Palace, the Arca del Agua, the Granja de Valdefuentes Farm and the Ermita del Humilladero Hermitage.

If you are a nature lover, you will love visiting the Villluercas-Íbores-Jara Geopark or Cañamero beach, the first blue flag in Cáceres and in a geopark.

Don’t miss the Plaza de Santa María and the old Jewish Quarter. And, if you have time, the surrounding mountain villages such as Cañamero, Logrosán and Berzocana are well worth a visit.
