A Gothic jewel in The Northern Pearl
Parador de Plasencia

In the heart of this historical city stands the Parador de Plasencia, inside the Monastery of San Vicente Ferrer, which forms part of the 15th c. monumental complex built by the Zúñiga and Pimentel families, dukes of Plasencia.

As you enter you are greeted by an impressive building of vaulted ceilings, elegant stone walls and magnificent coffered ceilings, which, combined with its exquisite décor, will take you to another age. The Parador also has an exclusive night bar in the old monastery wine cellar, where you can relax and enjoy the evening in a fantastic setting.

The Monastery of San Vicente Ferrer, the church of Santo Domingo and the Mirabel Palace form a complex commissioned by the dukes of Plasencia in the 15th to 17th centuries; a complex full of legend and built in the Late Gothic style with Renaissance touches.

The convent still contains some of its original features, such as the coffered ceiling of the lower cloister, the refectory pulpit, a marvellous 16th c. ceramic frieze and many remnants of mural paintings of the period. But the most spectacular space is the raised staircase, one of the most beautiful in Spain, built in 1577.

    Explore the surroundings in Plasencia

In Plasencia, culture and nature go hand in hand in a beautiful architectural setting. A vibrant town lies at the feet of the Parador, with beautiful medieval streets where spectacular buildings await the visitor, such as the Old Romanesque Cathedral, and the new Gothic Cathedral with Renaissance touches. The river Jerte passes through the city and offers you a place to walk and relax, which you can finish off with a tour of the Route of the Parks, which is an ideal trail for the children.

The beauty of Plasencia goes beyond the city itself and spreads out in the surrounding region. The city provides an ideal starting point to visit the Monastery of Yuste, the last resting place of Carlos I, or discover Romangordo, a picturesque village famous for its murals and trompe l’oeil figures. Plasencia is also surrounded by incredible scenery such as the Valle del Jerte, Las Hurdes, the Sierra de Gata, the region of La Vera and the National Park of Monfragüe, which are just waiting for you to explore them. And if you want to immerse yourself in our customs, then don’t miss the Martes Mayor, a fiesta declared as a Fiesta of National Tourist Interest.

You can also stroll through its narrow streets, discover the numerous stately homes and convents and visit the city wall, one of the most distinctive images of the city.

Next to it is the Medieval aqueduct, which was built in the 16th century, and the San Antón Park, which is perfect for a stroll.

The highlights of the historic quarter also include the palaces and stately homes (the Palace of the Marquis of Mirabel, the House of the Two Towers, the Municipal Palace and Doctor Trujillo’s House) and the convents and churches (Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora del Puerto, Convent of the Carmelites or the Hermitage of La Salud).

Another of Plasencia’s defining features is its natural surroundings.

The river Jerte is fully integrated into the city and has a pedestrian walkway.

You can also enjoy the natural environment in the heart of the city centre is the Parks Route: the Los Pinos bird park; La Coronación, where children can have fun, and the El Cachón and La Isla parks, which are next to the river Jerte.
